AMANDA KNOX’S NIGHT OF ORDEAL

Sleepless in the Fortress

An ordeal four years long, concentrated in this long, dark, hot night. Even the summer seems to have stopped, to wait for her.

And, after the infinite night, the longest day is about to start.  An army of unchained cameramen and photographers will invade the courtroom, stopping their assault only when the jury enters.  Her lawyer Luciano Ghirga will start speaking, predictably at about 10. Then Raffaele will take the stand. Then she, the protagonist, will make a speech for her life.

Then: nothing. A long day to pass waiting. Amanda and Raffaele will probably spend it in a courthouse cell. Or maybe she, whose jail is closer, will be brought back there for a few hours.

Reportedly Hellmann already asked for lunch and maybe dinner to be served to the sequestered jury. But not for beds and night service.  They will withdraw about noon and come out with the verdict in about 6 hours. Hopefully Hellmann will tell us how long there will be to wait before going.

The time for the jury then goes into the summing up of the case, point by point, which will be performed presumably by assistant judge Zanetti.  Then the questions of the jurors to the judges, if any. Lot’s of words. Then the only word counts: “innocent” or “guilty”.

The vote will take place. First the jurors, starting from the youngest up to the oldest. Then Zanetti, and the President as last.

The majority wins.

So if it’s midnight in Perugia on Monday it’ll be only3 or 4 pm here in Seattle . That means if they manage to wrap it up on Monday we will know fairly early in the day. We will all be sending positive energy and be glued to our computers and radio and TV news reports. Be sure to post a few times during the day for us so we can stay on top of things. I assume that eventually we will get to read (in English) what Raffaello and Amanda said to the court. I bet she’s a wreck – I know I am and I have never even met her or her family (well I did meet sisters and a grandmother at a fundraiser). Hang in there Amanda, it’s almost over. If they find her guilty again it could really hurt her so much emotionally that it will also affect her physically – more so than the 4 years in jail already has.

Please, God, help us and let our kids go home.

Keep on posting Frank, we depend on you.

VERDICT “NOT BEFORE” 8 PM ITALIAN TIME, HELLMANN SAID.

  4. berlin2000 says:

    Well, done pleading…
    Hats off to this girl.

Now it’s time to wait. Has anyone noticed it? With activated siren They drove to the prison. This dangerous Amanda. just like in 2007.

  5. My stomach is in knots awaiting the verdict. I can’t help but be pessimistic, based on how this “justice system” has treated her in the past.

  6. laughingdogs says:

    Kind of you to ask.

    My wishes:
    1. Acquittal for Raff and Amanda TODAY.

    2. Recognition of your heroic role in whatever form pleases you… money, fame, a book deal, interviews, whatever.

    3. Peace for the Kerchers. I hope they come to see the truth and soon feel relieved that the legal madness is over.

    4. I don’t like to wish misfortune on people, so let’s just say karmic justice for Mignini, Maresca, and others who trumped up this case and put the Knoxes, Sollecitos, and Kerchers through hell.

    5. A good job for me.

Now what are your wishes, Frank?

  7. Just a few more hours… I am worried for both defendants. I am hoping Amanda can be on a plane home tomorrow.

  8. speri337 says:

I just read that some of the jurors were crying while Amanda spoke… maybe this is a good sign

  9. randy2438 says:

Crying?…these sheepherders cry only about a lost sheep. Real people are treated with distain…especially if they are female and from USA. Mount Vesuvius should erupt and melt the boot off the earth. Take the barbarians with it.

It’s not the Italian people who are at fault, only certain bad apples among their legal and policing system. Namely those who want a return of the fascist system they had under Dictator Mussolini. Better keep a close eye on Pignini. He’s a definite candidate for Dictator of Italy…
