COPS BREAK INTO HOSPITAL ‘GEMELLI’ AND ‘LA SAPIENZA’ UNIVERSITY

(Upd.)

Today in Rome cops entered at the same time the hospital Gemelli and La Sapienza University, looking for Stefano Conti and Carla Vecchiotti.
According to University sources who witnessed part of the event the cops were sent by the Procura of Perugia, and ordered  Conti and Vecchiotti to hand over the DVD containing the presentation with which yesterday the two scientists had explained their report in court.
It seems that watching this DVD was so urgent, so important that the prosecutors had to send two patrols to Rome! (I remind you that in Italy the state complains that there isn’t money to pay gas for normal patrolling).
What happened? All of a sudden the prosecutors got victim of a science fever? They lost their sleep because they have some doubts about how the polymerase chain reaction works, or how the DNA microsatellites allow identification?

By how they reacted yesterday in court, actually, it seems that they are almost kind of mad at the two scientists. Probably you’ve heard that President Hellmann had to slam his hand on the bench to stop Comodi and Maresca, who were interrupting Stefano Conti.

Conti had been asked yesterday evening for the DVD but he didn’t accord a copy to the prosecutors since he’s only obligated to give one to the court. Also, he explained that his presentation contained only extracts from his report, from police videos and court transcriptions. So, it should be nothing new for the prosecutors.

By the way, it seems that this morning C&V refused to deliver the DVD to the cops, who didn’t have a warrant. The two doctors, instead, managed to immediately contact President Hellman who, in the end, settled the problem by allowing a copy to the prosecution.

What will there be so important in that DVD? Perhaps that dialogue in which a cop says that  there was ‘disorganization beyond belief’? That one, yes, is a sentence which should be worth two cars sent to Rome and back.

Or maybe someone has spotted out a crime, made by the scientists with that presentation?

AVIELLO: ‘I WAS KIDDING’

Really?

In the meanwhile the cops proudly announced that Luciano Aviello –the inmate who said that crazy story of his brother going to kill Meredith, then giving him keys and knife, which he had then hidden in a hole, etc– collapsed.

Aviello was investigated for slander, since Mignini thought he had committed a callunnia against his brother and against himself, by sending letters to President Massei during the first trial to Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito, in which he maintained that the pair had nothing to do with the crime.

Knox defense had then inserted his version in their appeal document and had called him as a witness. The investigation apparently started in October 2010, with the Perugia cops going to search Aviello’s cell in Piedmont.

Local wire services reported that right after having received the notice of conclusion of investigation, last week, he asked to be heard, and he confessed to Comodi to have made everything up, because he wanted to help his friend Raffaele who he had met in the Terni jail.

It seems that he also added to have had a deal with Sollecito’s lawyer Giulia Bongiorno to release his version, and that he was paid 30,000 euro, which Vanessa Sollecito gave him through a friend in Naples… And the money, now, are in a Turin apartment…

So, the game continues…

And they are are really going to look for the 30,000 in Turin!

What is it with this Aviello character? Can’t he get his sex change on the Italian health service, Frank? You can in Britain.

  2. perugiashock says:

    We needed something light…

    No in Itlay you can’t…

  3. struoc says:

Interesting, they didn’t have a budget to record the interrogations either…or so I heard someone say on video to a journalist.

Having a direct phone number to Judge Hellman is a nice bit of insurance it seems…haha,

this “magic phone number” is something Raffaele and Amanda did not have.

  4. Suzi Rosales says:

What an update! Thank you, Frank, and some questions. Is it true that Aviello is being accused of slander by the prosecution? Would he, then, co-operate with prosecution to save himself? Does that ‘co-operation’ include him stating he was bribed with 30,000 euro? And, who would be the person bribing him? Please do not say the prosecution is claiming it is the defense!

  5. Ray Turner says:

These police are really good at dealing with people…..

  6. Rick Bonin says:

Thanks for this timely update Frank. This is really getting interesting. It seems that C&V are not responding to these intimidation tactics. They were probably prepared for it.

  7. David Martin says:

Sounds like the evil empire is crumbling and the rats are scattering trying to save their own behinds.

  8. Elizabeth says:

I love Frank’s pictures, both the digital ones and the word pictures. He brings the case to life in all it’s Machiavellian glory–or should that be horror?

  9. berlin2000 says:

    (lost in thought)

Damn —– it was so funny yesterday in the courtroom!

… and then there were these scientists. They had so much to tell.

…and then………… no one has co-written- probably again forget the fountain pen.

But Information of this complexity, could noone really expect.

I think it’s easiest if I ask my boss if he can get this DVD for us.

    Damn it…

    Unbelievable!

    Hellman caved… I hope that’s not a bad sign.

Does he realize this situation is dangerous? He could end up collapsing too.

If I were Hellman, I’d get those kids out of Perugia ASAP. Seems to me the prosecution has something worse than science fever.

  11. laughingdogs says:

    Oh and poor Vanessa Sollecito…

I hope she moves to California before she ends up sharing a cell with Knox.

  12. randy2438 says:

    Hi Frank,

Nice story. Who charged or rather “Aviello was investigated for slander” who investigated? Your next interview needs to be the office that investigated Aviello. I suspect this would be Mignini. First question ….why investigate Aviello? Next…did you do the same investigation on Toto? How about Quintinville? Or how about the olive chucker…I forget his name…or Nara? If Aviello was investigated then first these should have been investigated…or Stefanoni or Rita or Monica…all lied in court.

I cant believe Hellmann allows this mafia tactics by the Perugia police. What is he thinking? The prosecution could ask the court for this DVD. Why go to Rome at all? I’m certain they went to Rome to send a message to the experts. How long can these criminals get away with this shit? Instead Hellmann should have filed charges of harassment and intimidation of witnesses by Perugia police and prosecutors. What a bunch of criminals. Good grief!

    • laughingdogs says:

The irony is the prosecution’s attitude toward sharing evidence with the defense.

Guess if C&V had wanted the electronic data files in a timely manner, they should have sent the Rome police department to Steffanoni’s lab.

  13. ldpirozzi says:

They should have arrested them. It’s so funny how Mignini and his gang of thugs think they are invincible and do anything they want anytime they want. This would be hysterical if there weren’t two kids in jail while all this nonsense takes place.

Hahahahaha!! that’s true Cody! Boy, these clowns in the Perugian justice (aka Mafia) system are giving the story of a lifetime to the future talented Italian tragedy/comedy writers. Damn it… like Idpirozzi says, I’d be laughing myself silly if Amanda, Raffaele, Vanessa and the parents of these kids were turned into victims of this mess.

You are American citizens, I’m an Italian citizen. You are surprised, I’m not. Welcome into Italian way of making justice….!!!
Amanda Knox is innocent, this is her only guilt, italian law sistem doesn’t accept to be wrong, in any case…. .
Good luck Amanda, just Mrs. Hillary Clinton pressure on the italian governament, it can let you be free.

  19. randy2438 says:

Hellmann allows this witness intimadation …he allows Stefanoni to withhold electronic data files causing a delay in the trial that keeps two innocent persons jailed for an extra 4 or 5 months. What kind of criminals run this” justice system”? I thought Massei was a prosecution only judge but this Hellmann seems to allow this mafia like behavior in his court as well. If I was a citizen watching this behavior I would be bitching like hell to the President who apparently is head of it all.

Who accepts this from people in power to jail you ? Soon the whole world will see this bizzare behavior that seems acceptable to the Italians. It certainly shines a bad light on all of Italy.

  21. Luigi Turchi says:

to randy 2438: Italian way to make justice is based on the time. You can wait 25 for a civil sentence, or wait in jail 8 year, to get a final sentence, for a penal sentence. Or, you can get a presciption to avoid being senteced, in case of being rich and powerful (without sleeping in a jail, not for a day). It isn’t a bizzare behaviour, it a well greesed mechanism, to scare all the italian people. In the middle – age it was known as “Santa inquisizione”. Look on wikipedia, to find you out what “Santa inquisizione” means…
More: This mechanism is useful when you need to…. I can’t say a word more. Probablly this blog is monitorated by Italian police. I could be accused to slender an Italian court of justice (I’m an Italian citizen). . It’s a low risck, I don’t want to challenge. Do you want to know what I think of Amanda Knox case? I send you my private mail, if you want to. To explain to you how Italian legal word works….

  24. randy2438 says:

    Well Frank,

We are waiting to hear news about todays session.
It appears Hellmann allows the goon squad to be used against the independant experts. Ive heard no news about any comment from him regarding the Perugia police sent to Rome to pick up what was available in Perugia. Does Hellmann realize Mignini sends his goons to sway the experts? Or is absolutly everyone in Italy corrupt?

It now seems Hellmann will allow this trial to drag on for eternity. Why dont you question the defense as to why they have not asked for release from jail since these new experts think the police were sloppy and the evidence is gone?

  25. struoc says:

It all seems foggy what happened today, I hope Frank can explain better.

It seems Hellman is going to allow the Guilters, within their legal rights, to insult the neutral experts publicly but not until the leaves change color and everyone has a vacation of spaghetti and wine, with some chocolate deserts.

The Appeal Prosecutor was absent but no one noticed.
